Central Bedfordshire Council: How to report cyber crime
Date Added: 06/10/2022
Safer Communities Team survey shows some residents don’t know how to report incidents
‘Cyber crime’ encompasses a huge variety of online crime, including phishing and email scams asking for personal information, hacking and ransomware and other malicious software.
A high proportion of cyber crime remains unreported, which makes it difficult to establish the most extensive and harmful cyber crimes nationally, and therefore the impact of these locally.
Earlier this year, our Safer Communities Team carried out a survey about cyber crime to find out what our residents were most concerned about.

How to report cyber crime
Just under half of the people who completed the survey said they didn’t know how to report a cyber crime. Other respondents said they knew how to report, but didn’t do so as they recognised the scam and avoided it.
If you are a victim of cyber crime, you can report it to Action Fraud, the UK's fraud and cyber crime reporting centre.
If you have received an email which you’re not quite sure about, forward it to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service (SERS): [email protected]
