Telephone calls selling bogus warranties for household goods
Date Added: 07/06/2022
Act with caution if you receive a suspicious telephone call
The Trading Standards team is urging residents to be vigilant following a number of reports of calls recently received by residents, whereby a caller will claim that a warranty or guarantee is due to expire for a household appliance. The caller will then try to persuade you into agreeing to a new 'bogus' warranty.
Our advice is if you ever receive such a call, do not be afraid to end the call by simply hanging up.
Never engage with the caller and do not trust what they tell you without checking the information for yourself.
Also, never give a caller your personal or bank account details over the telephone – even if it seems they may already have these details!
If you are concerned about anything the caller maybe claiming, end the call and contact the relevant provider directly to verify what you have been told.
If you ever experience or suspect a scam, please report it to us by calling 0808 223 1133.
