We plan a fresh approach to on-street parking, and we need your views
Date Added: 22/09/2022
We have a new On-Street Parking Management Strategy, and we want to know what you think.
It looks at those frustrating parking issues, will support our towns and communities, will benefit you (our residents and businesses), and is designed to promote sustainability.
Please take a few minutes to look at the detail and comment at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/consultations. The consultation has been extended to Monday 3 October 2022.
On-street parking forms an important part of the road network which we must manage. Left unrestricted, parking can lead to congestion and delays, cause potentially dangerous obstructions on the roads, and can contribute to increased air pollution.
Our new strategy will offer a well-planned approach to on-street parking, considering all related issues in a balanced and fair way, and intends to make local communities better places to live, work and visit.
We want to help our towns, villages, and communities to thrive and one way we can do that is through better management of on-street parking. This supports our roads and road users, ensures our spaces are used appropriately, improves road safety, and ultimately enhances your quality of life.
We know tackling climate change is important and our on-street parking strategy can make a positive contribution.
We can encourage more walking and cycling for shorter local trips which have associated health and wellbeing benefits and, where possible, using sustainable transport such as electric vehicles, buses, or trains for longer journeys we can cut CO2 emissions and do our bit for sustainability and our environment.
The strategy will be an important element of our overarching Local Transport Plan which manages transport across Central Bedfordshire and it will also contribute to achieving the ambitions set out in our Sustainability Plan.
We will review and consider your responses in preparing the strategy for final approval at Executive Committee in early 2023.
